Tour De France

Tour De France, originally uploaded by Will Rose.

This has been sitting in my favorites pile for some time now. Simply a fantastic shot of man and machine working together. Big Ben in the background is icing on the cake. Wide angle, fast shutter, and stopped down aperture (f/8) yields this excellence. If I took one shot like this a year I'd be a happy man...

Overloaded Motorcycle

Overloaded Motorcycle, originally uploaded by Gerald Yuvallos.

In less than a month's time I'll be in the Philippines, where two wheeled transportation is a way of life. A great sense of speed in this photo, even though that tiny bike with those three passengers was probably not going very quickly LOL! Still, the mood is nice, and the light from the car behind the subjects (but off the frame to the left) adds a nice little touch.

fast perspective

fast perspective, originally uploaded by paulbillett.

When it's cold and dark in the midst of winter, photos like this help us muddle through...

The lighting makes this photo otherworldly - the high contrast, the movement from dark darks to the blown out sky. The slight blur adds the sense of motion. I want to be there.

Not In Use

Not In Use, originally uploaded by Arnthor.

Winter is not kind to two-wheeled enthusiasts. But January is nearly done, and February is the shortest of months. Quicker than we know it, Spring will be here.

A wonderfully composed and exposed photograph. The ripples in the snow (as seen in the subtle color changes) are a beautiful, delicate detail.

Motorcycle in inclination

Motorcycle in inclination, originally uploaded by f650biker.

It's January and racing is just around the corner. As with every off-season there have been a lot of changes, and racing fans around the world wait in quiet anticipation of wheels once again turning in anger.

2008 will be the last season of eternal champion and tough guy Troy Bayliss. Can he win the title in his final year on the new Ducati 1098?

2007 Yamaha R1

2007 Yamaha R1, originally uploaded by john m flores.

My most popular motorcycle photo on flickr to date. Scratch that, my most popular photo on flickr to date, period.

It's interesting to see what catches peoples' eye on flickr, some of it very good, some of it very nice....

Bastion Square Grand Prix

Bastion Square Grand Prix, originally uploaded by bikes.rule.

Two wheels of a different kind, yet the sense of speed and the union of man and machine are still there.

iCast

iCast, originally uploaded by john m flores.

The cast is off and everyday brings some minor advance in my strength and mobility. While I still walk like a pirate or the Hunchback of Notre Dame, I can almost see the day when my normal stride returns and I am 100% me again...

Ride at night and your field of view collapses to the within within your headlight. What lurks beyond is unknown.

I bumped into some new motorcycle photographers on Flickr. The eye and creativity of people there never ceases to amaze me. Photography is truly a democratic art, and people around the world are passionate about 2 wheels..

Motorcycle show @ Javits/NYC next weekend. Who's going? Last year I walked by the Backroads USA booth. They publish a regional motorcycle mag and I asked them for submissions guidelines. Sheet in hand, I came home and tried to write a story. Man, that was painful. But I got it done, got it submitted, got it published! I was over the moon when I heard that the story would be published. I was like a kid in a candy store when I went to my local motorcycle shop, picked up a copy, and saw my name in ink. You'd think it was no big deal, but for me, on that day, it was.

Anywho, it was about last year's show @ Javits. I'll post it shortly...

HOLY CRAP! It's been forever since I've even looked at this thing. OK - snap resolution - to make this blog freakin' AWESOME this year. As they say in showbiz, stay tuned...

p.s. - Spain was awesome.

I leave tomorrow for two weeks in Spain. I'm renting an Aprilia Pegaso from Ad-Mo Tours. Props to Uwe for helping me with the arrangements. This time next week I'll be in Jerez, watching practice and qualifying for the GP. More later...

Blitzed the Reservation Saturday on the tail of a Porsche. Good fun. Today the bike sits beneath a cover while we await the storm of this short century.

Friday, March 02, 2001

Went to NYC motorcycle show last week @ Jacob Javits. Hated it. Too many production bikes that you can see at your local dealer. Not enough concept and limited production bikes that you rarely see. Not enough accessories dealers.
